About the Event
Join Gender Equality Perth and fellow parents, parents-to-be, relatives and carers in a friendly, welcoming space to start a conversation around equality issues in the context of raising children. Whether you have never thought about gender equality or you are an equality activist, all are welcome and all have a part to play in creating an equal world for the next generation. This group is aimed at antenatal parents/carers and parents/carers of children under 5. Other relatives and early years professionals are also very welcome to join.
The purpose of the group is to foster discussion around gender equality and young children, with the intent of raising awareness of what the issues are and how our unconscious biases may be showing up in everything from the words we use to the toys we choose.
Each group session will have a different theme, i.e. media, toys, parent roles etc. Participants are welcome to attend individual sessions or the entire programme. This month's theme is books, tv and media.
It is FREE to attend but booking is required. This session of the Equal Parenting Group will take place in person at The Treehouse in Abernethy. The soft play facility has been booked for our exclusive use so parents/carers can join the discussion while children play and we will be holding our discussion within sight and sound of the play area. There will be a qualified childcare professional supervising the play area to help free up parents/carers/relatives to take part. We know attending events with little ones can be challenging, so please do whatever you need to in order to make this work for you. Breastfeeding and bottle feeding welcome, and don't worry at all about dipping in and out if you need to see to your young people! We will provide one hot drink per participant; further drinks and snacks are available from the Treehouse cafe.
This event is supported by the Perth Common Good Fund.
